The transport sector is one of the fastest growing emissions sectors in Australia and as such provides significant opportunities for greenhouse gas abatement. The Australian Government is seeking to reduce emissions in this sector through:
- informing consumer choices
- working with industry to improve vehicle efficiency
- exploring and developing the use of alternative fuels where there is a greenhouse benefit.
Travel Demand Management (TDM)
The Australian Government is engaging with States, Territories and local governments and communities to support various approaches to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from passenger transport, particularly in urban centres. The initiative complements TravelSmart activities already underway across Australia.
