Northern Australia Water Futures Assessment

The Northern Australia Water Futures Assessment is a multidisciplinary program being delivered jointly by the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts and the National Water Commission. The objective of the assessment is to provide an enduring knowledge base to inform decisions about development of northern Australia's water resources, so that any development proceeds in an ecologically, culturally and economically sustainable manner.

Under Water for the Future, up to $13 million will be made available from 2008-09 to 2011-12 for approved projects.

The assessment will bring together existing information and commission work where a clear need for additional information is identified for key basins in Northern Australia. The spatial area covered by the assessment is shown in the following map.
